︎ SCGALLERY - COLLECTIVE SHOW - ABRIL. JUNIO 2026 - BILBAO︎
︎LOS CONDUCTORES - SOLO SHOW - 2025/2026 ︎︎︎ RIO AND MEÑAKA ︎ MADRID ︎
I never got to meet my grandfather José, but there is a story about him that perfectly captures who we, the Fuentes Fuertes family, are. He got his driving licence when he was fifty, and his first car was a Seat 600, which was stolen just one week after he bought it. When he had saved enough money to buy another one, he chose a cadmium-yellow Seat 133 and decided to replace its bumpers with wooden ones. He was a carpenter.
Sometimes I imagine him driving that brand-new car, proudly making his way through the city with the bumpers he had made himself. That image always makes me smile. Without knowing it, he is the origin of many of the gestures we still repeat in our family: that belief that anything can be improved if we put our hands on it, if we transform it a little. That is who we are. We like to intervene, change things and give new meaning to the everyday, always through art.
In this collection of works, following that family tradition, I wanted to offer my own interpretation of classical oil portraiture and pay tribute to everything that happens when we drive or are driven somewhere. To those intimate sensations of moving towards a place where something is about to happen.
I have thought of the car as a small stage, where light and shadow fall in ways that invite meticulous painting. I have also focused on the curving geometries of vehicles, isolating, cropping and removing them from their original context in order to discover new possibilities within them.
The Drivers is an exhibition of shapes, colours, textures and nostalgia. It is also about the colour that cars and our streets have gradually lost over the years. The works bring together memories and anecdotes experienced inside vehicles, as well as journeys, loves, dreams, friends and strangers portrayed alongside the cars that have been part of their lives.
When I said goodbye to my black 2004 Micra, I cried a lot. With it went my twenties, thousands of kilometres and a version of myself that will never return. It had been a faithful friend for fifteen years. Whenever I see one like it on the street, I cannot help but smile at it, in the same way I smile at dogs.

“broken flowers” is a tribute to the human portrait and figurative painting, an invitation to contemplate the beauty of the classical through a contemporary perspective. through these portraits, i seek to capture the essence of these peculiar and transient connections. the expression of the male gaze intertwines with the delicacy and fleeting beauty of flowers. each brushstroke is an attempt to capture human complexity and vulnerability.
why do men give flowers and use them as a symbol of reconciliation? perhaps because they recognise that, just like flowers, relationships are fragile and require constant care. flowers become our way of saying “i’m sorry” and reminding the other person that we are willing to begin again. in every withered petal lies the hope of a new beginning.

ENTRAN MOSCAS"
Solo Show in Madrid (Spain) / 3.12.2021 - 8.1.2022 / RIO AND MEÑAKA. ︎
CUANDO ERA NIÑA, CARLA FUENTES FUERTES (VALENCIA, 1986) FABRICÓ UNA MOSCA DE PAPEL Y PEGAMENTO QUE LA ACOMPAÑABA A TODAS PARTES. DESDE NIÑA LES DIO A LAS MOSCAS UN VALOR Y UNA ATENCIÓN QUE PARA EL RESTO DE GENTE NO MERECÍAN. PARA LA CARLA ADULTA, LAS MOSCAS HAN SIDO Y SON HUMILDES COMPAÑERAS DE SU COTIDIANA SOLEDAD EN EL ESTUDIO. LA EXPOSICIÓN “EN BOCA CERRADA TAMBIÉN ENTRAN MOSCAS” ES UN EJERCICIO A TRAVÉS DEL CUAL LA ARTISTA NOS INVITA A MIRARNOS EN ELLAS COMO SOCIEDAD.
“A UN PANAL DE RICA MIEL DOS MIL MOSCAS ACUDIERON, QUE POR GOLOSAS MURIERON PRESAS DE PATAS EN ÉL”. “LOS HUMANOS PERECEN EN LAS PRISIONES DEL VICIO QUE LOS DOMINA” ESCRIBIÓ DE SAMANIEGO. EN UNA ERA EN LA QUE PASAMOS HORAS CONECTADOS A LAS REDES SOCIALES, ¿NO SOMOS TODOS UN POCO MOSCAS, CONTRA EL CRISTAL DE LA PANTALLA, QUERIENDO VER EL MUNDO? LA FORMA QUE TENEMOS DE RELACIONARNOS HA CAMBIADO SUSTANCIALMENTE: AHORA PUBLICAMOS FOTOS Y VÍDEOS. HABLAMOS MENOS SÍ, PERO EXPRESAMOS Y DECIMOS MUCHO DE NOSOTROS MISMOS A TRAVÉS DE LAS IMÁGENES QUE COMPARTIMOS EN REDES SOCIALES. POR ESO HOY, EN BOCA CERRADA, TAMBIÉN ENTRAN MOSCAS.
LAS MOSCAS, POSADAS EN CUALQUIER SITIO NOS CONVIERTEN EN ALGO TERRENAL, QUIZÁS DEBERÍAMOS DETENERNOS A OBSERVARLAS PARA DARNOS CUENTA DE LO BREVE E INTENSA QUE ES LA VIDA. YA LO DIJO EL POETA WILLIAM BLAKE: “BAILO Y BEBO Y CANTO HASTA QUE ALGUNA MANO CIEGA SE LLEVE MI ALA”. LAS MOSCAS EXISTEN PARA RECORDARNOS LO PEQUEÑOS QUE SOMOS REALMENTE, ALGO QUE MUCHOS PARECEN HABER OLVIDADO EN ESTOS TIEMPOS GOBERNADOS A GOLPE DE COLECCIONAR LIKES Y FOLLOWERS.
SCHOPENHAUER VEÍA EN LAS MOSCAS UN “SÍMBOLO DE LA IMPERTINENCIA Y LA AUDACIA”. MIENTRAS EL RESTO DE LOS ANIMALES HUYEN DEL HOMBRE, LA MOSCA SE POSA SOBRE SU NARIZ. QUIZÁS ESTA EXPOSICIÓN, Y LA OBRA DE CARLA FUENTES EN GENERAL, SEA METAFÓRICAMENTE ESO, LA MOSCA COJONERA QUE QUIERE DESPERTARNOS Y SACARNOS DE NUESTRO ENSIMISMAMIENTO. VAYAN A VERLA, POR SI LAS MOSCAS.
